Pomarius is the title given to an ongoing collaborative project led by artist Alice Andrea Ewing. The resulting works are solid bronze ‘direct casts’ of the produce of gardens, historical locations and ancient trees in the UK. In every case, the translation into bronze is understood as making explicit the inherent value already held by the organic specimens -  a value understood by the gardeners and carers of these locations.

Produced through an adaptation of the Italian or Renaissance Lost Wax casting process, the resulting bronze works are unique translations of the original organic specimens, capturing every detail and curiosity of form. Pomarius 'collections' now consists of a wide variety of natural specimens, fruits, nuts, chillies and other varieties of plant and produce. Pieces are cast and finished at the artist’s studio and foundry in Suffolk, UK.

Many annual collections have been developed from personal relations between people and their homes, specific or ancient trees, and shared memories within these places. Wild and foraged pieces celebrate the bounty of the natural world left unattended or when approached with respect and care. All works are seasonal, with small collections produced each year.

A number of site-specific collections have also been created with walled gardens and estates around the UK. Previous collections and design collaborations include those with Soho Farmhouse, Great Glemham Estate, Tresillian House, Aldourie Castle and Audley End. Pomarius works featured in Loewe's SS21 adn FW21 campaigns, Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, with a limited edition series of jewellery pieces created by Alice Andrea Ewing in collaboration with Loewe.

I am the ancient Apple-Queen,
As once I was so am I now.
For evermore a hope unseen,
Betwixt the blossom and the bough.

Ah, where's the river's hidden Gold!
And where the windy grave of Troy?
Yet come I as I came of old,
From out the heart of Summer's joy.
